OneGlobal News Standards of Excellence ( back )
As a member of OneGlobal News Working Media, I agree to uphold the following Standards of Excellence:
-
All sources must be footnoted and tested or accuracy. The only time we do not list sources is when this is a high profile story in a legal situation.
- Never distort or pull information out of context, including headlines, news teases and promotional material, photos, video, audio, graphics, sound bites and quotations
- Always give credit where credit is due. Never plagiarize.
- Diligently seek out subjects of news stories to give them the opportunity to respond to allegations of wrongdoing.
- Give voice to the voiceless; official and unofficial sources of information can be equally valid
- Recognize a special obligation to ensure that the public's business is conducted in the open and that government records are open to inspection.
- Show compassion for those who may be affected adversely by news coverage.
- Having the title of Working Media gives you priviledges others do not enjoy, yield this power with integrity and honesty. Be sensitive to others knowing that gathering and reporting information may cause harm or discomfort.
- Recognize that private people have a greater right to control information about themselves than do public officials and others who seek power, influence or attention. Only an overriding public need can justify intrusion into anyone's privacy.
- Never accept bribes, in any form. Examples: travel, meals, gifts etc...
- No profanity or nude media will be used.
